World Water Day

The United Nations Organization (UN) declared March 22 as World Water Day in 1992 within the framework of the “United Nations Conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro”. This date seeks to raise awareness and remember the relevance that this vital liquid has. Since most economic and social activities depend on the supply of fresh water and its quality. This is why the United Nations considers access to water a fundamental human right. However, more than a third of the world’s population does not have access to a safe supply of drinking water.

It is important to highlight the role that water plays when it comes to human development and quality of life. This is why water has come to be considered as “Liquid Gold” due in part to the role it plays in the development of life and in part to its scarcity. Even though the world is mostly covered by water, only 2.5% of it is fresh water and even less is the percentage that represents water suitable for human or drinking consumption. For this reason, access to water in many parts of the world is considered a luxury, as well as access to a sanitation and sewage system.

It is everyone’s responsibility to take care of this vital resource, raise awareness about its importance and its fragility. Since it is not only about having responsible consumption, but about protecting water sources. In other words, achieve sustainable development management. Where water resources are used without compromising the needs of future generations.

HOW CAN WE PRESERVE WATER?

  • Check the pipes and water access keys, in order to detect possible leaks and leaks.
  • Use a water control system in the toilet. You can place a brick or a bottle of sand in the cistern or tank.

  • Turn off the tap while you lather your hands, shave or brush your teeth.

  • Use a moderate amount of water to wash the dishes and the car. Use leftover soapy water for household cleaning.

  • Water the plants or lawn in the morning hours, using only the amount needed.

  • Take short baths. Close the faucet while you lather up and collect the excess water in a bucket when you open the tap. You can reuse it to water the plants.

  • Avoid using appliances such as washing machines and dishwashers to wash minimal amounts of clothing or dishes.

  • Do not put polluting products, waste or oil in the toilet, dishwasher or sink. Apply this advice if you go to the beach, a lake or a river.

  • By cleaning the fish tanks you can reuse the water to water the plants.

Everyone’s contribution is essential. For this reason, we invite you to create awareness by sharing this information through the different social networks with an opinion, idea or suggestion on this interesting topic.
