Spring Equinox

When does the Spring Equinox take place? Between September 22 and 23, the spring equinox takes place and marks the beginning of this climatic season in some countries of the world. The word equinox comes from the Latin “aequus” which means equal and “nox” which means night. It is an astronomical event in which the Sun falls directly on Ecuador, for which the duration of the day and night is practically the same in all parts of the world. If the Earth had no inclination, the Sun would always hit the Equator all the time, so the amount of light that the Planet would receive would be the same and there would be no seasons.

In the countries of the Northern Hemisphere, the Spring equinox occurs between March 20 and 21 of each year. In 2022, the Spring Equinox in the Northern Hemisphere is March 20.

In Latin America, these celebrations have been in force since pre-Columbian times, where indigenous cultures worship Nature and its climate change.

The Equinox is a date linked to the Andean agricultural cycle, in which corn is the main protagonist, since it is a symbol of fertility within the indigenous worldview and the main reference within the religious-cultural festive calendar. It is also the time when the first tender grains appear and the other crops are in bloom.
