List of Attractions:

The Middle of the World (La Mitad del Mundo), Initiñan Museum, Pululahua, and the Historic Center.

Tour Duration: Full Day

One of the favorite discoveries of all visitors — get to know and learn about the different facets of Colonial Quito by walking through its historic cobbled streets, museums, churches, and plazas; Later a bus will transport you to the central point of the world to explore Parallel 0° at la Mitad del Mundo.

The Equator or Middle of the World (La Mitad del Mundo) is a magical and interesting site, not just a line that divides the planet; the importance of Parallel 0° can be noted in that its initial measurement (longitudinal unit) that was created by the French Academy of Sciences in 1791 and defined the ten-millionth unit of distance that separates the pole from the equatorial line.

The Middle of the World offers you many things to do — from a visit to the Ethnographic Museum, posing for group photos on the same equatorial line that divides the earth into North and South; a tour of the Middle of the World facilities as well as admission to interpretation centers.

Many of your questions will be answered at the Intiñana Museum where you will participate in educational activities and learn more about the crafts and culture in Ecuador. Later we will visit the Pululahua Geobotanical Reserve — a dormant volcano with a spectacular view towards the ancient caldera that now holds a small town.

Pululahua is one of the only inhabited craters in the world. As you descend you will be immersed in a rich ecosystem of bromeliads, ferns, orchids, squirrels, rabbits, sparrows, curiquingues (a bird of prey in the falcon family), and hundreds of other species of plants, birds, mammals, and insects.
